A Vision for 2017

Many organizations are looking to 2017 with promise and hope as we hit a big reset button. For us, January 9, 2017, marks our 12th year in business and an opportunity to “go fishing” in a new way. As the desire to work with more faith-based organizations developed, like magic, the next several clients were just that! Thus, a rebrand for our company was in order. On our anniversary, we are excited to announce that SW Creatives, LLC is now Brand Calling, a brand consultancy that provides expert branding for those called to do good.

I want to inspire you with a story found in John 21. After Jesus had risen from the dead, he appeared to his disciples who had gone fishing on the Sea of Galilee. They hadn’t caught any fish, and so Jesus tells Simon Peter to throw his net to the right side of the boat, and he will find some fish there. They did as they were told and there were more fish than they could handle! Verse 11 says,

“So Simon Peter went aboard and pulled the net to shore. It was full of large fish, one hundred fifty-three, but although there were so many, the net was not torn.”

One hundred and fifty-three fish just on the other side of the boat! There are a few key lessons I hope you glean for 2017. First, you have to fish where the Lord tells you to fish. He knows where your blessings are, so go where and do what He tells you to do. Second, His blessing is abundant. These were not small fish—they were large. And it wasn’t a handful—there were 153 fish! Third, if it is His will for you to have that abundant blessing in your organization, He will give you the capacity to manage the blessing. Your net will not tear, losing the blessing you thought you had. God will reinforce your nets, increase your capacity, strengthen your arms, and send people to help!

As we embark on 2017, that’s my prayer and my hope for you and your nonprofit organization. I don’t want you to waste time and resources fishing for donors, volunteers, and advocates where none are swimming. I want you to cast your net on the right side of the boat. I want you to quickly adjust your strategies when things aren’t working or when God gives you a new vision for the direction you should take your organization.

To all of our clients over the past 12 years, thank you for your trust and support. Now let’s go fishing!
